Will Federal Money Cause the Next Crisis? – Peter Hartcher

Complete video at: http://fora.tv/2009/04/15/Peter_Hartcher_Whos_to_Blame_for_the_Financial_Crisis

Journalist Peter Hartcher compares the current actions of central banks to those of Alan Greenspan after the last financial crisis. He warns that “excess money always leads to some nasty pernicious event.”

—–

According to Peter Hartcher, from 1996 on, Alan Greenspan, chairman of the United States Federal Reserve Board from 1987 till 2006, knew that equity markets were overheated and should have taken concerted action to cool them. In fact, Greenspan gave one speech in December 1996 questioning the “irrational exuberance” of investors but never followed up to pop the bubble.

By 1999, Greenspan had become an out-and-out cheerleader of the so-called New Economy, in which labor productivity was rising so quickly that inflationary pressures were of minimal concern. As the steward of America’s financial markets, he should have known better, Hartcher argues, but in the face of jawboning from both Congress and the White House, Greenspan buckled under and took the easy way out. – Sydney Institute

Peter Hartcher is an Australian journalist and the Political and International Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald. He is also Chair Editor of The Diplomat, an Australian foreign affairs journal, and a visiting fellow at the Lowy Institute for International Politics in Sydney.

Tom Campbell, Dean of UC-Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, discusses the weakened U.S. Dollar’s relationship to the E.U.’s Euro.

—–

The Annual Bank of America Walter E. Hoadley Economic Forecast with Tom Campbell.

As we enter 2008 with a volatile stock market and a real estate crisis, what’s essential to know about the economy for the year ahead? Former member of Congress and Haas Business School Dean Campbell helps us navigate uncertain economic waters in the annual forecast – The Commonwealth Club of California

Tom Campbell is the thirteenth dean of the Haas School of Business, a position he has held since August 2002. He formerly held positions of US Congressman, California State Senator, Stanford University law professor, and, recently, California’s Director of Finance.

In December 2004, Dean Campbell took a one-year leave of absence from the school after being appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to be director of the California Department of Finance. He returned as dean of the Haas School in November 2005.

Prior to joining the Haas School in 2002, Dean Campbell was a law professor at Stanford University Law School for 19 years, beginning in 1983. He was elected five times to represent the Silicon Valley area of California in the United States Congress. Among his legislative achievements were authorship of the 1998 Food Bank Relief Act and the 2000 Peace Corps Reauthorization Act.

Campbell also was elected as a California state senator in 1993. During a two-year term, he earned ratings by the Sacramento-based “California Journal” as the most ethical state senator, the best overall senator and the state Senate’s best problem solver.

Life After Gold & Silver becomes TRUE Money!

Add me as a friend on Facebook!

Are Gold and Silver a GREAT investment? If so, for what time frame…in the short, medium or long term.
Is gold investing all about timing? And will a time like the early 80s when Gold and Silver crash come again?

Many believe that We all know that we are at the stage where ALL governments around the world are printing fiat money to such an extent that Gold and Silver have nowhere to go but up.

However, my question to you all is…what will this world be IF and WHEN there is a collapse in fiat money? How will we go about our daily lives? Will gold and silver be the new medium of exchange? Will it be safe to trade in gold and silver if only 1-3% have enough to trade?

Your comments will be greatly appreciated!

Crash Course: Chapter 5 – Growth vs. Prosperity & Chapter 6 – What is Money? by Chris Martenson

Chapter 5 (Growth Vs. Prosperity): Contrary to what we’ve grown used to, growth is not the same thing as prosperity. In fact, growth and prosperity are both dependent on the same thing: surplus. Dr. Martenson explains how we’ve been conditioned to want, and to take, both growth and prosperity; however, we are approaching the limits of our physical, finite, earth – the amount of surplus is steadily declining.

Chapter 6 (What is Money?): What is a dollar? Sure, it allows us to buy things like food, cars, and iPods; yet, most of us don’t really understand money beyond that. Dr. Martenson not only provides an understandable definition, but also explains what gives our green pieces of paper value, and what dangers any currency must face.
